madre de Amadeu Casellas Ramón, nos reunimos delante de la
Sala de Vistas de la calle Dr. Junyent, de Vic, el pasado 12
de agosto de 2008. Teníamos una entrevista concertada con
la jueza Erika López Gracia, del Penal 2 de Manresa, que es
quien, el 18 de julio pasado, denegó a Amadeu Casellas la
petición de limitar su condena a un máximo de 20 años.
Dejó entrar cinco personas.
No sé si la jueza tenía o no otro lugar dónde
recibirnos, pero el caso es que lo hizo en la misma sala de
juicios: ella presidiendo la mesa, con el secretario al lado
y el fiscal a su izquierda, y la funcionaria cerca de la
puerta. Nosotros cinco, en los bancos del público; más
bien, en el banquillo de los acusados. “Falta el abogado
defensor”, pensé.
Parecía un teatro. ¿Era un teatro? ¿Por qué nos
recibió, si no quería tocar ni una sola coma de lo que ya
había decidido? Tan joven, tan guapa, tan morena de las
vacaciones en el Japón... Hablamos de un hombre que hace
más de veinte años que está en la prisión, señora.
¡Que hace más de cincuenta días (ahora ya son cincuenta y
cuatro) que está en huelga de hambre!
Educada, discreta y sonriente, la jueza aguanta el
chaparrón, nos mira con condescendencia desde arriba de la
tarima, quizás sólo le incomoda algo la madre.
Prisión. Huelga de hambre. Señora, ¿de qué sonríe?
¿Qué le hace tanta gracia?
El fiscal, si lo es, está cada vez más nervioso, coge y
deja papeles, aquello se sale de todos los guiones a que
está acostumbrado, supongo. Hace cara de pensar: ¿por qué
los escucha, señora?
Al fin y al cabo las prisiones son el pan de cada día...
“Las consecuencias pueden ser irreversibles. Pueden ser
mortales”. Hace daño, decir esto delante de la madre.
Porque los presos tienen madre, señora. No se atreve a
mirarla a la cara, ¿verdad? De hecho no quiere mirar, no
quiere saber, repite la frase de manual una y otra vez:
“Estoy sometida al imperio de la ley”. Y lo dice sin
sonrojarse, sin despeinarse, sin avergonzarse. ¿Qué ley,
señora, pregunta la madre: la de los ricos, la de los
pobres...?
No sé si la jueza tiene hijos y, si los tiene, no sé qué
haría, si se encontrara en este caso. Si debiera pedir
clemencia, si debiera pedir, como nosotros, una justicia
justa, no vengativa, no antisocial.
“No se desanimen”, dice, y a todos nos parece, ahora,
cínica. “Todavía está la Audiencia...” Pero será
demasiado tarde, señora sometida. Porque las personas
tienen un límite, y cincuenta y cuatro días de huelga de
hambre es un umbral demasiado peligroso: es un salto al
abismo.
¿El imperio de la ley es esto? ¿Dejar morir un hombre?
¿No perder la sonrisa de postal?
¿Qué vale, señora, la vida de un hombre, su dignidad, su
libertad? ¿Qué vale?
