Ya casi no hay
inmigrantes en la localidad italiana de Rosarno. Esta localidad del sur
del Italia, de 15.000 habitantes, contaba hasta ayer con 2.500
inmigrantes, que están siendo trasladados a centros de acogida cercanos
por las autoridades tras una serie de enfrentamientos con los vecinos
que dejó al menos 67 heridos.
"Todos salen derrotados",
se lamentaba Luigi Ciotti, líder de la lucha civil contra la mafia. La
revuelta de inmigrantes en Calabria se salda con un millar de
jornaleros africanos deportados en centros lejanos; los habitantes de
la localidad de Rosarno (15.000 habitantes) divididos entre los
exaltados racistas y los atemorizados; casi 70 heridos africanos,
italianos, agentes de seguridad y los cítricos sin recoger.
Cientos
de inmigrantes han abandonado ayer el pueblo en los autobuses
proporcionados por la Protección Civil después de 48 horas de revuelta
y disturbios. Aterrorizados, y sin saber a dónde van, los temporeros de
la mandarina cuenta que no pueden soportar el racismo y el sufrimiento.
"No nos dejan trabajar, y encima nos atacan y nos quieren matar",
dice Steve Jhonson, un liberiano de 16 años, mientras prepara su
mochila y se dispone a subir a uno de los autobuses. Al menos 250
inmigrantes, gran parte de ellos africanos, fueron ya trasladados a un
centro de acogida en la ciudad de Crotona (sur) Italia, luego de la
persecución que se produjo este viernes contra estos extranjeros, lo
que dejó al menos 37 personas heridas, dos de ellas en estado de
gravedad. La noche del viernes fueron trasladados el primer grupo y
este sábado dos nuevos autobuses partieron de Rosarno para trasladar a
Crotone a más inmigrantes, en este caso algunos de los que vivían en la
fábrica que gestionaba la antigua "Opera Sila".
Los inmigrantes se encontraban refugiados en una antigua fábrica papelera denominada "La Rognetta"
en la localidad de Rosarno (sur) y trabajaban como jornaleros en esa
zona de Italia, donde eran contratados por sueldos miserables para
cosechar naranjas y mandarinas. Las tiendas de campaña individuales,
colocadas unas junta a otras. Sin agua, sin luz, sin baños. Algunos de
ellos dormían en unas cisternas al aire libre, oscuras y angostas,
prácticamente sin respiración. Los temporeros soportaban estas
condiciones de vida a cambio de 20 euros diarios a jornada completa, o
a un euro por cada caja de mandarinas recogidas si trabajaban a jornada
partida.
Las autoridades italianas llegaron a un pacto para
trasladar a más de mil temporeros africanos a centros de acogida en las
ciudades de Crotone (a 170km) y la capital, Bari, en régimen abierto. "Ninguno será expulsado del país",
explicó ayer uno de los mediadores, el sacerdote Pino Demasi, alma
local de Cáritas y de la asociación antimafia Libera. Según fuentes
policiales de Rosarno, unos 500 inmigrantes más serán traslados en las
próximas horas, antes de que nuevos enfrentamientos por parte de los
vecinos de la localidad vuelvan a producirse. La mayoría de los
extranjeros están dispuestos a irse por sus propios medios a otra zona
donde sus derechos como seres humanos sean respetados.
El
pánico se ha apoderado de los trabajadores africanos, que quieren salir
de la localidad cuanto antes, aunque no quieren renunciar al salario
que se les debe como trabajadores. Algunos inmigrantes, que recorren el
país de norte a sur buscando su jornal durante todo el año, han
abandonado el pueblo por sus propios medios, en coches o trenes. El
éxodo de los desesperados tiene el sabor de la derrota. Los ataques que
están sufriendo les colocan en una difícil disyuntiva: quedarse y
arriesgar su vida o marcharse y perderlo todo. La portavoz de ACNUR en
Italia ha visitado en el hospital a los heridos. Cuenta que hay tres
inmigrantes ingresados, uno de ellos, la víctima que provocó el
estallido de rabia de sus compañeros jornaleros. "Salía de hacer la
compra del supermercado, cuando unos jóvenes del pueblo le dispararon
en el bajo vientre con una pistola de aire comprimido", explica
Boldini. Tiene la ingle llena de perdigones. Los otros dos tienen
disparos en las piernas, y uno de ellos recibió el impacto de más de
cincuenta balines. "Hay todavía muchos temporeros escondidos en los
campos que no han podido cobrar la paga y no quieren marcharse. Todos
tienen miedo, pero también necesidad de cobrar ese dinero", agrega Boldini.
Mientras,
medio centenar de vecinos armados con palos, bastones y bidones de
gasolina están apostados en las cercanías de la antigua fábrica
abandonada, y han manifestado su intención de no moverse del lugar
hasta que no se hayan ido todos los inmigrantes. Además, varios
exaltados rociaron con gasolina y quemaron una casa de ciudadanos de
Ghana. Entre los detenidos hay familiares de mafiosos.
La
única ganadora local de los incidentes racistas podría ser la
NDrangheta, la mafia de Calabria, que según las hipótesis estaría
detrás de los primeros disparos contra los jornaleros (la mecha de la
revuelta) y hasta habría animado la caza al negro desatada en
Rosarno. Su objetivo: distraer la atención de los tribunales de
Calabria, a los que el Gobierno ha prometido traer refuerzos después de
que la NDrangheta hiciera explotar una bomba el 3 de enero para tratar
de amedrentar al fiscal recién llegado.
Pero, por desgracia, hay otros grandes vencedores en todo esto: los
partidos políticos italianos que durante los últimos años vienen
ensalzando el discurso fascista y racista contra los inmigrantes,
y que ahora se estarán frotando las manos al haber podido comprobar en
la práctica el amplio calado que sus discursos han tenido entre una
parte de la ciudadanía italiana.
Una vez más, el fascismo
vence, el racismo se impone a la lucha por los Derechos Humanos. La
justicia social y humanitaria deberá seguir esperando. ¡Pobre Italia!
