El jueves 11 de marzo, toda Grecia ha quedado paralizada durante las 24 horas del día como resultado de la segunda huelga general convocada en menos de un mes (no la tercera como han informado los medios extranjeros, ya que la primera huelga de febrero tan sólo concernía al sector público). Como resultado de la huelga convocada por GSEE (del sector privado), ADEDY (del sector público) y PAME (del Partido Comunista), ni un tren, metro, tranvía, autobús o trolebús ha salido de su estación, mientras que debido a la huelga de controladores aéreos, no ha habido un solo vuelo ni nacional ni internacional. Sólo ha funcionado durante cuatro horas el tren eléctrico en Atenas, con el propósito de facilitar la participación de la gente en la manifestación masiva al mediodía. En el sector sanitario, todos los hospitales están funcionando tan sólo con personal de emergencia, ya que todos los médicos, conductores de ambulancias y enfermeros están en huelga. Todos los bancos están cerrados al público, y todas las oficinas de servicios municipales están cerradas. El Canal de Corinto también ha sido cerrado por los empleados en su control, no permitiendo el paso de un solo barco. Uno del grupo "Movimiento Antiautoritario" y el otro de otros colectivos y grupos, pero también hubo muchos anarquistas dispersos en los bloques de las Corporaciones Obreras. Ambos bloques sumaban a más de 4.000 personas. También hubo bloques de grupos y colectivos de la izquierda no parlamentaria.

Al mismo timepo, la gente empezó a reunirse en el cruce entre Patision y Alexandras, para la manifestación convocada por GSEE y ADEDY.
